Setting App Permissions on Android Phones
Follow these steps to correctly set up the My Safety Buddy app on your Android smartphone.
If you already have My Safety Buddy installed, you may need to uninstall My Safety Buddy and then follow these steps.
Please note there may be variations to the below screen layouts for different models of phones.
1. Go to the Google Play Store to download the My Safety Buddy App.
2. Tap [Install] to download and install the My Safety Buddy App.

3. Tap [Open] to open the My Safety Buddy App.

4. Enter your email address and tap [Next].

5. Enter your password and tap [Sign In].
Note: If your account is set up with SSO, you will be redirected to your company’s SSO login screen to login.
If your account has MFA enabled, you’ll need to enter a code sent to your email or via SMS on the next screen before you can access the app.

6. Check if the displayed mobile phone number is correct.
Tap [Correct] if it is the correct mobile phone number.
Tap [Change] to update the mobile phone number.

7. Enter your OK PIN and tap [OK].
Your OK PIN is to be between 2 and 6 digits long. It will be used to confirm you are OK for any future alarms.

8. Re-enter your OK PIN and tap [OK] to confirm you OK PIN.
This will be the same PIN you entered on the previous screen.
Note: You will only see this step if it is your first login to MSB or if your OK PIN has changed since your last login.

9. If you have a vehicle set up, select the vehicle and tap [Select Vehicle for Today].
If you wish to skip this step, tap [Skip].

10. “Allow My Safety Buddy to take pictures and record video?” will appear on the screen.
Tap [While using the app].

11. “Allow My Safety Buddy to record audio?” will appear on the screen.
Tap [While using the app].

12. “Allow My Safety Buddy to send you notifications?” will appear on the screen.
Tap [Allow].
Note: This step is for phones using Android 12 and later.

13. The “Appear on top” settings for your phone will appear on the screen.
Scroll down to find “My Safety Buddy” and toggle this to ON.

14. Tap on the back arrow in the top left corner of the screen to return to the My Safety Buddy App.

15. “Stop optimising battery usage?” will appear on the screen.
Tap [Allow].
16. “Do you allow My Safety Buddy to access your location during these times while the My Safety Buddy App is open on the screen” will appear on the screen.
Tap [Allow].
Note: This enables My Safety Buddy to access your GPS location while you are logged into the app and it is active in the foreground on your phone.

17. “Allow My Safety Buddy to access this device’s location?” will appear on the screen.
Tap [While using the app].

18. “Do you allow My Safety Buddy to access your location during these times while the My Safety Buddy App is in the background, even if you are not actively using the app?” will appear on the screen.
Tap [Allow].
Note: This allows My Safety Buddy to access your GPS location while you’re logged into the app and it’s running in the background on your phone.

19. The “Location permission” settings for your phone will appear on the screen.
Tap [Allow all the time].
Note: “Allow all the time” only applies while you are logged into the My Safety Buddy App. When you are logged out, we do not collect any information.

20. Tap on the back arrow in the top left corner of the screen to return to the My Safety Buddy App.

You are now setup and ready to use My Safety Buddy!
Note: Your Home screen may look different if your Administrators have disabled some functionality.
